What do we do
Camarada Ventura is a genre-blending band that transits between electronic, jazz, classical and pop music. In this project, pianist Jofre Fité, double bassist Carla González and drummer Pau Gurpegui dive into a sonic exploration that takes them beyond their traditional instruments to incorporate synthesizers, drum machines, Ableton Live and live effects, to create a captivating atmosphere and a modern sound. Strongly influenced by the music of artists such as E.S.T., GoGo Penguin or Kiasmos, Camarada Ventura proposes an energetic and sensitive live show that ranges from danceable techno or dubstep moments, through melodic ballads, complex grooves or even rock moments. In 2024 they presented their first album, Look Again, and are currently working on the second, which will be released in the fall of 2026. Both are inspired by the informative work of the American astronomer Carl Sagan, in his reflections on the place of humanity in the immensity of the universe, and in his humanist, pacifist and ecological perspective.
Formerly known as JF Trio, the band has 6 years of experience on stage and 2 published albums, being the winner of the Fara Jazz Live 2022 award, and performing on stages throughout Spain, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and Austria.
Our Story
The story of Camarada Ventura begins in Barcelona during the CoVid pandemic. Back then, pianist Jofre Fité contacted double-bassist Carla Gonzàlez and drummer Pau Gurpegui, to record what would be his first album as a leader. The three of them had just finished, or were finishing their music bachelor, and found the time and space for rehearsing and investigating Fité's music. After a year of rehearsals, JF Trio recorded "Dotze" (Underpool Studios, Barcelona) on July 2021, and released it during the following year of 2022 a single a month. Dotze is a long album dedicated to the twelve months of the year, and it features a string and winds ensemble, a three-piece horn section, a flute and a guitar player in certain tunes. The tunes of Dotze work in pairs: Gener (January) and Juliol (July), Febrer (February) and Agost (August)... sharing instrumentation and certain compositional aspects.
The week after recording it, the trio had the opportunity to play at the Fara Jazz Festival in Italy, where it won the festival's prize for emerging bands, which was... to record another album! So, the trio started composing, this time a bit more corally, and on Abril 2022 they recorded their second album, "Transit" (Tube Recording Studio, Fara), which was released three months later. While the singles from the first album were still coming out once a month. It was a confusing period. Transit is a bit of a hiatus in the group trajectory, as it's a fully acoustic album due to the guidelines of the Fara Festival, and it's dedicated to several cities that have greatly influenced us.
By that time, JF Trio had outgrowth what a regular jazz trio lead by one of the three was supposed to be, and the decision came to change the name, to reflect the indentity of a cohesive band.
